A. Not quite sure what strips you`re talking about. But if you`re getting rain through the window I would have to go with the window replacement. You`ll probably find that most of the parts you need will be unobtainable or very hard to install.

Q. Can I just install a replacement window into a custom built frame? Why or why not?

A. As the others have said, a new construction window has a flange running around the perimeter of the window frame which is nailed or screwed to the house framing. Then the house siding, bricks, stucco or other permanent covering is placed over the flange so it's concealed. Most modern replacement windows are designed to fit inside your existing nailed-in window frame once your original windows are removed from their frames. This makes for a very neat, simple and clean installation. They are screwed in on the inside of the frame and the outside is sealed with caulk to prevent moisture and air leakage. You can install a replacement window into a custom built wood or steel-stud frame but you would do it after the siding for the house is applied, not before as the external and internal frame of the replacement window is designed to go on the outside of your walls. I'm assuming you've already got a replacement window you want to use.

A. One window is considered a small job - this means you will pay a little more. If you have any curtains removed and furniture away from the window I would say an experienced carpenter can remove the old window and install the new in 1- 1+1/2 hrs., if it was measured correctly. The window should cost between $130 - $160 depending on the size. I assume it is a double hung window. Should you wait until you have the money for all four windows, you should get a cheaper price. Now remember minimum labor for only one window should be around $150 - $200 this is because it is almost not worth a good carpenter to go out and replace just one window. A. If your old window is a double hung unit you measure the width at the point where the sashes meet the old inside jamb and the height from the top where the sash meets to the inside high spot of the sill, hopefully you can remove the inside trim to install .

And I don't know how to remove the window coverings either. need to hire some one (professinal) to remove. My question is, who should pay for this, the owner or the condominium management? A. Windows are usually part of the owner's responsibility, along with window coverings. Not included in window replacement If the window coverings are inside the drywall, they're your responsibility, not part of replacing the windows
